Greece is two cruising grounds in one: the wind-swept, whitewashed Cyclades and the greener, calmer Ionian. A crewed charter lets you island-hop between anchorages that day-boats never reach — quiet bays for lunch, buzzing harbours for dinner.

No other country in the Mediterranean gives you this much choice in a single week. The Cyclades deliver the postcard — Santorini's caldera at sunset, Mykonos after dark, the volcanic moonscapes of Milos — but they come with the meltemi, the summer wind that turns an afternoon crossing into a decision your captain makes for you. That is exactly the point of a crewed yacht: the skipper reads the forecast, reshuffles the route overnight, and you wake up somewhere calm and beautiful without ever having thought about it.

The Ionian, over on the west coast, is the gentler Greece — pine-covered islands, short sheltered hops and warm evenings in tavernas built over the water. It suits families and first-time charterers, while the Saronic islands on Athens' doorstep make a superb three- or four-day escape. Wherever you sail, the rhythm is the same: swim before breakfast, a long lunch at anchor, and dinner ashore in a village the ferries skip.

The Greek charter season runs May to October. July and August are hottest and liveliest but bring the strong meltemi wind to the Cyclades; June and September offer warm seas and calmer sailing, while the Ionian stays gentler all summer.
